Agent Kate: What I Love About My Kitchen
by Real Estate Sales Representative Kate Broddick
If your family is like mine, then you know there’s one room of the home where everyone seems to gather. It’s the kitchen! We have these beautiful family rooms or living rooms in all of our homes but have you ever noticed that when you’re entertaining, folks always end up milling around the kitchen counter? There’s something nice and relaxed about a kitchen where everyone can sip a glass of wine and nibble while they enjoy each other’s company.
When I was building my home, there were a few MUST HAVES on my kitchen to-do list. It had to be crisp white — not off-white, not ivory, but bright pure white. White shaker cabinets, white subway backsplash, white countertops. Something just feels so classic and clean about a white kitchen. It never goes out of style!
Another thing I wanted in my kitchen was a 6-burner gas stovetop. I love to cook and having 6 burners means I can have a bunch of different things going on the stove all at once. I’ve also got a double-oven which is great when you’re entertaining — you can have two different items baking at different temperatures and it makes life so much easier!
We have a busy household and when you’ve got kids, you know that storage is a must-have in the kitchen. I needed a large pantry that could fit a lot of stuff, and the sliding shelves mean I don’t have to dig for things hidden in the back. I love it!
Finally, our ten-foot island means there’s always a spot for friends & family to gather. My kids are young right now but I imagine this will be the perfect place to do homework when they’re older while I’m cooking dinner. A nice big island gives plenty of prep-space, but it also just feels like a great gathering spot!
Kitchens are the heart of the home, as they say, and I’m so glad after all these years I was able to finally build a kitchen that is functional but welcoming at the same time.
