Agent Stacey: It takes time to get the perfect kitchen!
by Real Estate Sales Representative Stacey Wills
Remember that Rolling Stones song, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”? Well that’s the story of my kitchen! Last April 2018, about 3 weeks before my second son was born, we moved into our new home. And although we loved the house and where it was located, there was a lot of work needing to be completed. The kitchen was a big one!
What we loved about this space was that it was HUGE. The kitchen is honestly the biggest room of our house, and that was a really big selling feature to us. You gotta love “good bones” like that! And it was in good shape: the granite countertops were actually a style called “Lennon” (which is adorable because that’s what we named our baby son!). The large windows in the kitchen let in TONS of natural light and we get to see the sunrise from here every morning! Plus, with 2 young sons, it’s nice to have an eat-in kitchen so clean-up is really easy.
But that’s about where the love affair ends. Like I said, you can’t always get what you want! Now, I’m not saying this kitchen is horrible or anything, but if I could wave a magic wand, I would probably change a few things. For instance, the beige backsplash. It doesn’t match anything else in this grey & white kitchen! And while we’re smashing out old tiles, I probably would go ahead and remove the dark floor tiles for something a little brighter & lighter.
With so much space in this kitchen, it would be great to have an island. However, the previous owners just painted the cabinets themselves (and didn’t do the tidiest of jobs) so until we decide what we’re doing with those cupboards, we’re holding off on getting an island put in.
But here’s the thing. I feel it’s more important to have a functional space – even if it’s not 100% pretty. We can always work towards the HGTV-worthy space we all want, and it doesn’t have to be right away. If you feel the same about your kitchen, take the time to create a Pinterest board and really think about the finishes and colours you’d love to have! It can always be a work in progress and something to daydream about! That’s half the fun!
