Agent Ally: A New Kitchen With Potential!
by Real Estate Sales Representative Ally VanderHarst
Sometimes when you buy a home, you buy it for its “bones”. Good space, plenty of room, and a spectacular location. But sometimes, there are rooms that you just know you’re going to need to work on! That’s the situation my husband and I are in right now.
We just moved into our home at the end of August so we haven’t made too many changes to this kitchen yet. We call it “a work in progress”. So far we’ve painted over the bright yellow walls with a neutral colour and replaced a light fixture. Yes, it was pretty outdated, but we’re managing. And we’ve definitely got plans for the future of our kitchen, but it will just take a bit of time!
It’s not all doom & gloom. We actually like what the space offers. For instance, it’s nice and big! There’s a lot more space than most kitchens offer, and we definitely see a big island in our future.
The location of it in our home is great too. It overlooks our backyard and there’s a sliding door to our deck. Plus, I just love my new dining table light. We replaced the old ugly one with this cool updated seafoam one!
But there are definitely things we’d like to change too. We call this our “before” picture! LOL The laminate countertops were actually painted blue. Yikes! And the vinyl floors aren’t so bad from a distance, until you notice there are holes torn through them from moving the fridge! Ideally I’d love to have more counterspace and cabinets, and that will require a pretty big overhaul one day.
We have big plans for this space in the future including knocking down the wall in between the kitchen & living room. Maybe brighten the space up with some lighter coloured cabinetry, an island with pendant lights – who knows! But until then, this spot functions well and we’re excited dreaming about the possibilities!
