Going Coastal with Agent Rebecca
by Rebecca Johnson – Real Estate Sales Representative
It’s April. And there are hints that spring and summer are on the way, but we’ve still got a bit of a wait before we’re all wearing flip-flops and sundresses! So wouldn’t it be great if you could have that warm, beachy feeling all year long? We all know that feeling we get from the sights and smells of the tropics: “BREATHE IN AND RELAXXXXXX”! And that’s the feeling I get when a home has a “Coastal” design style to it.
The overall aura of this style is to reflect a lifestyle that is comfortable, relaxed and unfussy. Because really, when you’re living that beach-life, things are moving at a slower pace. We’re talking about salty seabreezes and plenty pf natural elements that have been weathered through the tropics. In homes with this coastal flair, you’ll find natural flooring & plenty of rustic wood. I just love homes with wooden beadboard and wainscotting as well. Have you heard of “shiplap”? It’s all the rage right now on HGTV shows and it fits perfectly into this design theme. And to go along with the natural elements, I looove fabrics like sisal & linen. Totally coastal!
When picking colours for this style, I love neutrals, clear blues, creamy whites and sea greens to mimic the seaside, sand and water. Cool shades are relaxing and really play well with this theme. We’re definitely not looking for BRIGHT BOLD REDS & NEON GREEN!
Airy spaces & large windows to allow in the warm breezes and lots of sunlight really play well with this. Sheer window treatments that sway in the wind are awesome! Can’t you just picture it?! Accessories with lots of simple things like coral, botanicals, seashells and landscapes, and voila! You’ve got a clean, sophisticated & relaxed feeling that takes you to the tropics, even in the middle of Canada’s winter! Ahhhh…. now deep breath, put those feet up and enjoy your coastal space!
