The past few months on the blog, we’ve been talking about our favourite local places around Brantford that we love to visit with our friends and family. Maybe you’ve heard of these hidden gems, and maybe you haven’t – but they’re all really great hot spots that make our community an amazing place to live!
Brantford Twin Valley Zoo: Animal lovers – did you know we have our own zoo?! Spend one of the last few warm weather days of the year visiting exotic animals only minutes outside of town! Brantford Twin Valley Zoo offers over 25 acres of habitats & nature for you to view and enjoy. It’s a wonderful walk through some trails surrounded by interesting animals from all over the world. Plus, there are fun & educational presentations about animal characteristics & behaviours that will give your kids a jump start on back to school!
Bell City Brewery: You’ve had a long Summer of keeping the kids entertained, now it’s time for you to unwind and get to know your hometown’s brew! Brewery tours are offered every Saturday & Sunday afternoon – take a look around and then relax in the bistro or on the patio while you enjoy some of the awesome selection of beer & great food with your friends. You can even take home a growler of your favourite brew – don’t forget to bring it back with you on your next trip for a refill!
Escape Key: If you haven’t heard about the popularity of escape room challenges, you’re missing out! In teams of 3-8, players have 60 minutes to find clues, solve puzzles, and work together to escape from a room! Escape Key offers two different rooms to choose from: Lady Evelyn’s Paradox, and Emerald Alert – which one will you and your friends try?! This is an awesome place for families, friends, or even co-workers looking to build their team skills. Sooo much fun!
Sanderson Centre: Enjoy an evening of entertainment at one of the variety of shows offered at the Sanderson Centre, located in the heart of downtown Brantford! This venue has hosted some great artists and continues to do so with upcoming events such as: Steve Earle & The Dukes, Brantford Comedy Festival, Jann Arden, The Barenaked Ladies, and The Wiggles – there’s something for everyone!
Dairee Delite: The Dairee Delight is definitely a Brantford landmark, especially for those looking for a sweet treat on a warm day! They’ve been serving ice cream treats for more than 60 years. From ice cream cones to banana splits, strawberry shortcakes to frozen cakes, Dairee Delite also has a legendary past! Did you know that The original ice cream stand – known as Koster’s Cream-EEE-Freeze – was built in 1953, and was located on Brant Ave at Bedford St until 1965. In 1965, the ice-cream stand was moved next to King George Road, setting up shop in the Brantford Mall parking lot, and changing names to the current Dairee Delite. As the story goes, the ice cream stand was offered as part of a poker game where it changed hands not once, but twice. The second time it changed hands, the winner had the stand moved from the Brantford Mall parking lot to its current location in the Home Hardware plaza on St. Paul Avenue. A great story and even greater ice cream!
As the Summer begins to wind down, it’s a good chance to get out and visit some new places that you’ve been missing in our amazing community of Brantford & Brant County! You won’t be disappointed!
