Backyard Living At Its Best!
by Agent Ally VanderHarst – Real Estate Sales Representative
Warm weather is finally here to stay and there’s nothing I love more than relaxing outside after a long day! But there is more to backyard living than just throwing a few lawn chairs on the grass and sitting down. I love it when the outside of a home is treated like additional living space – and that means putting a little thought into the design. Let me show you what I mean!
Our yard has a couple of different seating areas or “zones” that we like to use for various purposes. It helps to break up the space and create different areas for entertaining and mingling!
The dining area:
A nice patio table with seating for 4 or more is perfect for summer dinners outside! Our table is set up on the deck close to the patio doors and the grill for quick & easy access. An umbrella for shade and an outdoor rug add pops of colour. A few solar lanterns or candles on tables can provide a nice ambience for those times when your get-togethers around the table last long into the warm evening.
The lounge area:
Got more patio space that you’re not sure what to do with? Create an outdoor living room for kicking up your feet! A comfy resin wicker couch set or Muskoka chairs are perfect for lounging back under the shade of a tree. Why not make the focal point of your patio a simple, mess-free propane fire pot? They’re super easy to maintain – all it takes is a tank of propane like what you’d use on your barbecue! And really, who doesn’t love sitting around in comfy chairs, toasting marshmallows on a breezy evening? Surround the space with colourful potted flowers and plants and you’ve got yourself a perfect relaxation zone for friends and family!
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m a total dog-person! So it’s nice to have some soft green grass in the backyard for our dog River to run around on. It also adds a bit of contrast to all the hardscaping of patios & decks. To me, nothing says summer backyard like a game of washer-toss or horseshoes in the grass, where we can go barefoot and enjoy ourselves. So if you have the space, keep some of the green stuff!
Even the smallest of backyards can be an oasis away from the daily grind of life. A few soft lights, some fragrant flowers and a couple of good chairs can make the perfect spot to relax after a long day at work. Now let’s put our feet up, and toast to the many summer nights ahead! Cheers!
