My list of “Must Haves”!
Real Estate Sales Representative
Over the next few months, our team will be talking about what WE look for in houses that we’re buying. These are the things that we would want for our families — and who knows? Maybe it will give you some ideas that you can consider when you’re looking to buy YOUR next home! Last month, Agent Lisa talked about her love of air conditioning and big backyards, and now it’s my turn to give you my personal favorite “Must Haves”!

Toy Room –
My number one need in a house right now is a dedicated space for our kids’ toys! With 3 kids in our home (and another on the way! hee hee) we have way too many toys laying around at all times. I’m so absolutely tired of tripping over little cars and dolls and legos and aaahhhhh! It’s just too much! Whether it’s a cozy little room in the basement, or an additional bedroom with shelves and bins for toys, our family needs this extra space to keep things tidy in our home. Bonus: as the kids get older, this space can be turned into a fun hangout for teenagers playing video games with their friends, or a guest bedroom for when Grandma pops by to visit.
Large Kitchen –
When you’ve got a large family, a lot of time is spent together in the kitchen. Whether we are cooking meals, working on school projects, or baking Christmas cookies, the kitchen is truly the heart of the home. As much as I love a formal dining room for special occasions, we really do need a large enough eat-in kitchen that our whole family can fit comfortably in on an everyday basis. That means a large kitchen table, lots of prep space and if possible, a breakfast bar for casual meals and homework time. The more open the space, the better!
Location, Location, Location! –
No matter how many renovations you do, or how many coats of paint you put on the walls, you just can’t change the location of the home. So when I’m buying real estate, the neighbourhood plays a big role in our decision. For my family, being close to parks for the kids, in addition to being near shopping and amenities is important to us. We like to be close to the action — not a half-hour’s drive away from a store when we need more bread and milk! But with that said, we don’t like being squished up next to our neighbours like sardines. We need our privacy and space too. Considerations for the location are a huge thing for us.So there you have it! Maybe you’re in the same situation with your large family as I am — we need all the space we can get! Best of luck with your buying, and I hope you find all your “Must Haves” too!
