When selling your home you never get a second chance to make a first impression. It’s important to leave a great impression on your buyers!
Every set of eyes that sees your home during a private showing is another chance at getting it SOLD. So we want to make the most of each time you have buyers coming through. We try to give as much notice as possible when scheduling these showings, but inevitably there will be last-minute requests to see your home.
Obviously it’s important to keep on top of regular housekeeping when your home is for sale; vacuuming and dusting on a regular basis should be done whether you have a showing scheduled or not. But what about those times when you get a call that your house is going to be shown within the hour? It’s “Red alert, all hands on deck! We’ve got to get this home looking great in a matter of minutes!”
Leaving a Great Impression on Your Buyers
It goes without saying that your home should be in good repair when you’re selling – for more tips on getting your home ship-shape, check out our tips on finishing Renos & Repairs Before Selling!
Turn on all the lights in the house, even if it’s daytime. Yes, every single one. We want your home to look bright and cheerful! Don’t forget the outside lights as well. This is an easy job to get kids to help out with.
Just make sure all lightbulbs are working, and if they’re not, NOW is a good time to change out the bulbs!
Flush all the toilets to freshen them up and close the lids. If the seats need a wiping, do it! You never know where a potential buyer might peek, and you don’t want to disgust them – and trust me, buyers DO look in the strangest places!
Give the counters a wipe down too (I like to have Lysol wipes on hand for these quick cleanups!).
This is one room that can make-or-break a showing. Wash and put away any dishes in the sink. Wipe down the faucets and counters so everything is shiny and pristine!
If the trash is full or smelly, tie it up and put it in the garage. Let’s give buyers the impression this is a fresh, clean space to eat!
GARBAGE AND CLUTTER
Speaking of trash, you should quickly collect all the garbage from wastebaskets around the house. Do a quick walk-through of each room and ensure there aren’t any items out of place, any random papers laying around, or things laying on the floors.
Boom! You’re good to go! Grab your keys and lock up and we’ll let you know how the showing went!
These are all really simple things that anyone can do before a showing, and they don’t take much time at all. They’re just some of the tips I offer my clients so we can get their home sold quickly!
Now let’s get out there and sell YOUR house! We can do this together!
